ADR Training
WHY TRAIN WITH US?
Our training programmes are based on the ‘Say, Show and Practice’ principle.
By ‘Say’ we mean the delivery of short lectures using the Socratic method, in which the trainers give the participants a theoretical understanding of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) processes and the resultant issues that arise. This provides a critical underpinning to the training.
The ‘Show’ portion is where the participants demonstrate what they have learnt orally. We believe that the hardest part of learning the various ADR processes, including mediation, is not merely by assimilating knowledge and theories, but getting what has been successfully understood by one’s brain to come out of one’s mouth.
The ‘Practice’ aspect of our training involves the implementation of what has been learnt through simulations and role plays to solidify the new skills acquired so they can be repeated in real life situations.
THE MIND SET BEHIND OUR TRAINING METHOD
In designing our training programmes we are mindful of the fact that helping people develop skills is different from providing them with knowledge or information. Skill development is concerned not only with the acquisition of knowledge but more importantly the application of the knowledge acquired.
At the end of our training programmes we ensure that participants go away better at practising what they have been trained in and not merely able to describe the concept.
Training in mediation and arbitration and other ADR processes can only be effective if participants are provided with ample opportunities to practice the skill-set sought to be imparted.
PROSPECTS
We believe that the development of real and lasting skills only takes place with experience over time in actual situations, as opposed to the simulated situations which have been used during a training course. In the light of this, after we establish a sound base during our training programmes, we help build up our trainees. We do this by giving them ample practice opportunity through affiliation with the Hub and mentorship avenues with our established mediators, arbitrators and ADR experts.
